Mumbai Imposes Prohibitory Orders Until August 6 After Protests Backing CJP Movement

Mumbai Police has imposed city-wide prohibitory orders from Thursday until August 6 following protests supporting the CJP movement linked to demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Gatherings, processions, public speeches, slogans, weapons, and unauthorized protests have been banned as authorities seek to maintain law and order after eight FIRs were registered against nearly 900 individuals.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police has imposed prohibitory orders across the city from Thursday until August 6 following recent demonstrations held in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-backed movement currently underway at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The restrictions were announced through an official order issued by the police on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order and prevent any potential disruption.

Under the order, gatherings of five or more people, processions, and all forms of unlawful assemblies have been prohibited throughout Mumbai during the enforcement period. The administration stated that the decision has been taken to safeguard public order and prevent any untoward incidents. Police have appealed to citizens to comply with the restrictions and cooperate in maintaining peace across the city.

According to Mumbai Police, demonstrations were organized in several parts of the city in support of the CJP movement at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Following these protests, police registered eight First Information Reports against nearly 900 individuals. The official order stated that intelligence received from various sources indicated the possibility of disturbances to public peace, deterioration of law and order, threats to public safety, and damage to public and private property. Citing these concerns, the city-wide prohibitory orders were imposed as a preventive measure.

The order further states that carrying weapons or explosive materials during the restriction period is strictly prohibited. Public display of any individual, dead body, or effigy has also been banned. In addition, raising slogans, singing songs, playing music, delivering speeches, or addressing gatherings in public places will not be permitted. Authorities have also prohibited the preparation, display, or distribution of posters, photographs, symbols, placards, or any other material that the competent authority considers indecent, prejudicial to the security of the state, or harmful to public order. Mumbai Police has made it clear that any protest, demonstration, or public gathering organized without prior permission will invite legal action against those involved.

The restrictions follow a large-scale demonstration held on July 20, when thousands of CJP supporters and a significant number of students marched from Jantar Mantar to Parliament in New Delhi. The protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG examination paper leak and repeated examination irregularities. After the demonstration, similar protests were reported from several parts of the country, prompting Mumbai Police to introduce stringent preventive measures across the city.
